Hominy Valley Youth BasketballUpdated Wednesday September 28, 2016 by Hominy Valley Recreation Park.
Hominy Valley Recreation Park’s Basketball program, for boys and girls grades 1-12, is conducted by volunteer coaches and administrators and is devoted to the enjoyment of the sport of basketball and development of basketball skills.
Over 300 youths participate in our recreational and travel basketball programs with evaluations beginning in October, and practices starting mid-October. Approximately 260 youths participate in our home recreational league, and around 80 in our travel league.
HV home league basketball is a recreational skills development program for 6-18 year-olds. Our home league atheletes compete against other HV teams on Saturday's in the Enka High School gymnasium. Our program teaches kids the fundamentals of basketball and good sportsmanship - all while having fun!
HV travel league basketball is a program sponsored and run by and under HVRP. The travel basketball program offers an opportunity for youth in the HV are to compete at a higher level and as a transition between our home league program and school sponsored team's. We field a total of 6 travel basketball teams (3 girls, 3 boys) ages 7/8, 9/10, 11-14. Teams typically practice two nights a week for and hour and half each practice. All practices are at Enka Middle School. We are one of 10 area organizations who field teams, and play a 10 game regular season schedule with a double elimination weekend season end tournament. Other teams are: Waynesville, bethel, Clyde, canton, Jackson county, Cherokee, Swain, Franklin, Brevard. All games are on Saturdays, beginning at 10am. Registration fees cover all costs.
We encourage all youth, even if they anticipate trying out for a school team to sign up with travel ball. They do not have to pay registration until after middle school tryouts. Our practices will start October 15th and our first game is November 15th.

The foundation of any successful program is the strong support of the parents and their willingness to volunteer and sponsor teams. Volunteering to coach or help out is very gratifying. Sponsoring a team is also a great help to the program and an excellent advertising vehicle for your business.
Registration: Registration for the 2016-2017 season will open mid-September.
