WrestlingUpdated Wednesday October 5, 2016 by Hominy Valley Recreation Park.
Founded in 2006, the Hominy Valley Youth Wrestling League has grown into popular winter activity in the Enka school district. Practices are run by the Enka High School wrestling staff, parent volunteers, and Enka High School wrestlers.
The winter youth wrestling league is sponsored by the Hominy Valley Wrestling Club. The league is open to children in grades 1-6. Kindergartners may participate if the parent and child feel they are ready. Wrestling is similar to developmental sports like gymnastics, which help children develop balance, coordination, endurance, and strength. Practices are designed specifically for young children to develop athletic skills that will carry over into all sports and are in no way exclusive to wrestling. HVWC practices will incorporate tumbling, gymnastics, movement drills, and high energy games to facilitate children’s athletic development. The HVWC also emphasizes learning, games, and fun throughout the winter season.
The 2016-2017 Hominy Valley Wrestling Club season kicks off with our first practice on Sunday, October 30. For returning members there are 3 options available to sign up for the next season.
1. You can mail in your payment ($85 check payable to “Enka Wrestling Club”) along with the attached form to Mark Harris at:
Hominy Valley Wrestling Club
475 Enka Lake Road
Candler, NC 28715
2. If you prefer, in person signups will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Enka High School cafeteria.
3. You may also email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to register and submit payment at the first practice if that works best for you.
All first-time wrestlers are entitled to a free trial practice. If your child decides to continue wrestling, full payment should be submitted by the next practice if possible.
Membership + Benefits
Membership dues are $85 per wrestler. Benefits include: instruction, excess insurance coverage, a USA Wrestling membership, magazine subscription and a club t-shirt. A wrestling headgear will be required this year for tournaments. The $85 membership does not include a headgear.
We are once again combining our club with other existing youth programs in WNC for regional events. In addition to our weekly practices, wrestling tournaments will occur on weekends during the winter. Tournament dates are scheduled for Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Dec. 3, Dec. 10, and Dec. 18. Details about these events, including any costs for wrestlers and spectators will be available when practices begin.
Starting on October 30, we will practice on Sundays at Enka High School from 2:00 to 3:15 pm. On non-competition weeks, we will attempt to schedule one additional evening practice from 6:00 to 7:15 pm if facilities are available. Practices will NOT be held during the holidays or when school is closed or dismissed early for inclement weather. In the event of a conflict with another school activity, practice may be cancelled or moved to a different night.
Regular attendance is encouraged; however, attendance for club practices and tournaments is not mandatory. You do not need to notify us if your child will miss a practice or tournament.
All participants in HVWC practices must adhere to the following dress code:
Parents Should Stay
